Mr. T.D. Chandrasekar
Saraswathi Chicken had a very humble start in 1972, when the founder Mr. T.D. Chandrasekar started trading duck/chicken eggs along with his father in a small shop in Pudupet, Chennai to earn the daily bread for the family. In 1975, he started trading country chicken along with eggs in the same locality and gradually increased his volume over the years. A defining moment for Saraswathi Chicken was on 8th December, 1978 when we acquired our first hotel order to Opal Inn, Nungambakkam. Since then there was no turning back as our wholesale business and hotel order acquisitions grew multifold which progressed the company’s sales through the roof.
With very few traders in the market and increasing demand for chicken in Chennai, Mr. T.D. Chandrasekar saw an opportunity to start trading in a well organised way and deliver to customers in and around the city. He started travelling to the neighbouring states (Andhra Pradesh & Karnataka) and different parts within Tamil Nadu to on-board poultry farmers for procuring chicken directly from the farm. From 1982-95, Saraswathi Chicken started trading Cockerel breed chicken from his shop in Pudupet. In 1987, Saraswathi Chicken opened its 2nd branch in Kodambakkam followed by several other branches in the successive years in different localities in Chennai. In 1995, when broiler chicken was introduced into the market; Saraswathi Chicken moved from trading cockerel bred to broiler breed. Initially, broiler chicken was purchased from Pioneer Hatcheries, and Shanthi Hatcheries. From 1999, Suguna Chicken has been of the major suppliers for Saraswathi Chicken. It was in this period (1998-2002); Saraswathi Chicken became one of the leading poultry traders in the market.
In 1997, Mr. T.D. Chandrasekar along with other key traders (N. Ghouse Basha, G. Kalidas, S. Aejaz Basha, and K.R.A. Basha) formed the Chennai Poultry Dealer’s Association (CPDA) currently known as Chennai Poultry Wholesale Association (CPWA) which is now responsible for fixing the daily live market rate for the Chennai traders. Mr. T.D. Chandrasekar served as the first president in CPDA and is currently the president of CPWA from 2017.
Saraswathi Chicken started with a mere quantity of 10kg per day, with consistent and relentless effort by Mr. T.D. Chandrasekar and the treasure of the company- Our Employees have made what Saraswathi Chicken is today - one of leading broiler chicken traders in Chennai.
